City of PoCo鈥檚 Annual Recycling and Tree Chipping Event聽
HSR Services was proud to support the City of Port Coquitlam鈥檚 annual Christmas tree chipping and recycling event, hosted in partnership with Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services. Over the two-day event (January 3 and 4), residents came together to responsibly recycle a wide range of materials and ensure their natural Christmas trees were chipped for reuse.
The event was efficiently organized and managed onsite by the City鈥檚 team, helping guide residents and ensure materials were properly received. Following the event, HSR Services will be responsible for collecting, transporting, and recycling the materials generated, ensuring they are directed to the appropriate recycling streams and kept out of landfill.
This year鈥檚 most collected materials were cardboard and Styrofoam, reflecting the high volume of packaging generated during the holiday season. In addition, residents recycled a wide range of other materials, including:
- Soft and flexible plastics
- Styrofoam packaging
- Glass
- Christmas lights
- Electronics
- Batteries
- Light bulbs
We were also encouraged to see strong community participation, with many residents bringing in their Christmas trees for chipping, which is an important step in returning organic material to productive use.
HSR Services is grateful to the City of Port Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services for organizing a successful and well-run event, and to all residents who took the time to participate. Community recycling events like this play a key role in reducing waste, recovering valuable materials, and supporting more sustainable cities.
